Plätzwiese High Plateau

The Plätzwiese High Plateau is an alpine meadow located at an altitude of 2,000 meters and offers visitors nature and tranquility in its purest form. As part of the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park, this secluded gem has preserved its originality, surrounded by majestic peaks such as the Dürrenstein, the Hohen Gaisl, the Monte Cristallo, and the Tofane. In summer and winter, hobby photographers can fully enjoy the diverse nature here, whether walking, hiking, climbing, cross-country skiing, or exploring the landscape by bike. It is the ideal place to simply linger, take a deep breath, and experience the beauty of nature.

Arrival

By foot, on two or four wheels?

The most convenient way to reach the High Plateau is with the bus line 443 from Villabassa - no online reservation is required. The ascent by car is subject to a fee and limited to a maximum of 100 vehicles, but descent is possible at any time.
The relaxed Puster Valley cycle path takes you by bike to the Valle di Braies, Ferrara (Sawmill), from where the steep hiking trail 37 leads to Plätzwiese. Endurance and strong pedaling are required along this route.
Lace up your hiking boots, pack your backpack, and explore Plätzwiese on foot! Numerous hiking trails will lead you on and around Plätzwiese, offering exciting adventures for both adults and children.

From Plätzwiese to the Strudelkopf - Sunrise in the Dolomites

As this 1.5-hour hike from Plätzwiese to Strudelkopf (2,307 m) is quite easy to master and leads to a great viewpoint mountain, it is particularly well-suited as a sunrise hike.

Start from the parking lot at Plätzwiese and the hut Plätzwiese on trail number 37 towards the Dürrenstein hut. Continue past an old Austrian fort from World War I. Then turn at the hut onto the forest road marked 34 to reach Strudelkopf saddle and finally reach the wooden cross on top of the Strudelkopf. A short and sweet summit hike!
