Skiing in the Dolomites

SkiingHotel Adler in Villabassa is a central starting point for the ski centres of the Alta Pusteria valley like: Rocca dei Baranci, Monte Elmo and Croda Rossa (10 min.), Plan de Corones (20 min.) and Cortina d’Ampezzo (30 min.). Skiing and snowboarding on perfect pistes in the Dolomites in the Alta Pusteria valley make winter holidays an unforgettable experience. In addition to the newly created Monte Elmo and Croda Rossa ski link with two new pistes and ski lifts (“Orto del Toro” and “Tre Cime”), the Val Pusteria skiing and winter sports paradise attracts with a further highlight: the Ski Express Val Pusteria. The ski train connects the Sesto Dolomites ski area thanks to the direct connection to Plan de Corones (Ried/Percha valley station). The train station is just 100 m from Hotel Adler in Villabassa.

 

Superlative cross-country skiing

Cross-country skiingDolomiti Nordicski, Europe’s largest cross-country skiing area, will make your cross-country skiing dreams come true. In the region of the Tre Cime mountains you can choose just the right trail for you from over 200 km of trails catering for everyone. One absolute highlight is the Prato Piazza route in Braies. Langlauf enthusiasts can look forward to a spectacular start to cross-country skiing through thick snow in natural surroundings. The Alta Pusteria valley has been the centre of cross-country skiing for many years. And the 4-star Hotel Adler in Villabassa is at its heart.

 

Snowshoeing and winter hiking in unique natural surroundings

Snowshoeing150 km of winter hiking trails in and around Villabassa provide plenty of scope for rest and recreation. Starting from Hotel Adler, there are fantastic hikes to choose from, for example Bagni Pian di Maia to Lago di Dobbiaco, returning via Santa Maria, or to the Val Fiscalina in Sesto Moso. A secret tip for winter hikers is Prato Piazza in Braies, which is also very popular with snowshoeing enthusiasts. If you snowshoe up to the Monte Specie, starting from Prato Piazza in Braies, you will be rewarded with incredible views all the way over to Tre Cime, the Cristallo Group of mountains and Croda Rosa. Another particularly recommended trip goes from Monte Croce to Alpe di Nemes and Malga Coltrondo. In addition: for our guests at Hotel Adler we also organise guided winter hikes and snowshoeing trips (no extra charge).

Dolomite ski toursThe snow that is guaranteed by the altitude of Alta Pusteria also ensures optimum conditions for ski touring. A ski tour really recharges the batteries. There are a host of routes in the immediate vicinity of Hotel Adler in Villabassa in the Alta Pusteria valley: Tre Cime round trip, Oberbacherspitze 2,675 m, Croda del Becco 2,810 m, Cristallo 2,812 m, Forcella Col Freddo 2,721 m, Cresta Bianca 2,932 m, Col de Riciogogn 2,654 m, Giavo Grande 2,480 m, Cima Piatta Alta 2,867 m, Cadini round trip and much more besides.

 

Tobogganing in the Alta Pusteria valley: leisure fun for the whole family!

The toboggan runs on Croda Rossa (5 km) and on Rocca dei Baranci (2.1 km), to mention just two, have a perfect ski lift connection. Children can really let off steam here. A particular highlight is the reindeer feeding at the summit station of the Croda Rossa toboggan runs. So what are you waiting for? Get on the toboggans, get set, go!
